BobiBird
About

A bird that needs you at the same time every day

BobiBird is small on purpose. There is no strategy to learn and no manual to read. You buy an egg, something hatches, and from then on the only thing it asks of you is that you turn up.

What a Bobi is

A Bobi is a bird you own, and you can sell it to another player. It is meant to be a compressed NFT on Solana, in your own wallet; that last step is the part still being built, and until it runs a Bobi lives in the game’s own records and nothing about it is on the chain. It hatches from an egg after three days, and you do not choose what comes out. It might be a sparrow, a parrot, or, rarely, an owl. The odds of each, and of every trait, are on the drop rates page.

Seven things about its appearance are decided at that moment and never change: body colour, pattern, eye colour, a marking, foot colour, a signature trait, and the colour of that trait. There are 414,720 combinations per species. A check at hatching draws again whenever the result would repeat an existing Bobi, up to 64 times. That makes a repeat very unlikely, not impossible — and a Bobi that does repeat another hatches marked as a twin, for anyone to see.

Why the daily part matters

A Bobi needs feeding at a time you choose. Turn up inside the hour and everything is fine. Turn up late and you lose points. Do not turn up at all and it gets hungry, then weak, then sick.

This is the whole game, and it is deliberately something money cannot solve. You can buy your Bobi the best accessories in the shop, and it will not add a single point to its record. Only showing up does that.

What happens if you disappear

After seven days without food, your Bobi goes to the shelter. It does not die. Half the tokens locked inside it are burned, its streak is wiped, and another player who has spent at least $10 in the game can adopt it for free, looks and medals and all. An adopted Bobi cannot be sold for 30 days, or bred or cashed out for 180. For the first seven days you cannot take it back yourself.

We chose a shelter over death for a reason. Deleting somebody's pet as punishment makes them leave and never come back. A shelter recycles the Bobi, gives a new player a free way in, and leaves the door open for the old owner to come back to something.

What makes one Bobi worth more than another

Three things, and none of them can be bought directly:

  • Time. A 200-day-old Bobi took 200 real days. There is no way to buy those days back.
  • Luck. Rare species and rare trait combinations come out of the egg or they do not.
  • Record. An unbroken streak of 300 days cannot be recreated by anyone, at any price, ever.

Money spent on a Bobi does not become value on its own. If it did, a buyer would simply buy their own egg and spend the same money themselves. What a buyer is actually paying for is the part they cannot do without waiting.

What BobiBird is not

It is not an investment, and we do not promise a return of any kind. Tokens locked in a Bobi sit in a pool wallet we run, not in your own wallet. You get them back in tokens if you cash the Bobi out, minus an exit fee that falls from 30% to 3% as the Bobi ages; if you sell it to another player, they go with the Bobi and you receive the sale price, less a 5% sale fee. Either way you are paid in $BOBI, and its dollar value can fall, as far as zero. The risks page sets out what else can go wrong, and the token page how $BOBI works.

Prizes exist, they are funded by fees players have actually paid, they are capped, and most players will not win one.

And a Bobi is not on Solana yet. The collections, the trees and the mint are built and have been rehearsed, but every mint has to be approved by the 2-of-3 multisig that holds the collections, and that step is not connected. So the sentence above — a compressed NFT in your own wallet — is a plan we intend to keep and have not kept yet. The roadmap says where it stands, and the whitepaper, section 12, what it means while it is unfinished.
